Thank you for purchasing my auto-resizing text box presets and mogrts! While I designed them to be as easy to use as possible, there are a few important things to know on this page. Watch the video for even more details.

Presets have .ffx file names and can be used in Adobe After Effects. Install them by placing the .ffx files in the folder Adobe automatically creates on your computer:
Documents > Adobe > After Effects (current version) > User Presets.
In After Effects, you'll find the presets in the Effects & Presets panel, in the User Presets folder.
You may need to go to the menu in the Effects & Presets panel and choose Refresh List before the presets will show up.
These presets will now be available in any After Effects project.
Create a text box by double clicking the preset in the Effects & Presets panel.
To align the box with a text layer, select the text box shape layer, go to the Effect Controls panel. Select the text layer in the dropdown menu.
Parent the text box to the text layer and enter zeros for the box's position.
Now that the box is aligned and sized to the text, you can unparent the box from the text or leave it parented.
Adjust the appearance of the text in any way that you like and the box should stay sized and aligned.
Adjust the text box as a shape layer (color, stroke, round corners, etc.). In the Effect Controls panel (with the text box selected), you can adjust the padding for the width and height of the box.
This text box will follow the animation of the text. The easiest way to animate the text is to apply the included Text Scale In & Out Preset to the text layer.
It's important to trim your text layer after the last keyframe for its animation out, so that the height of the text box appears correctly.
You can also animate the text in your own unique way. In order for the text box to follow the animation on the text layer, the size of the text layer needs to change. This means changing the size of the text layer by animating the scale property with text animators, but you can also animate other properties too.
Note that scaling the entire text layer only affects the text box if the box is parented to the text.
To learn how to animate text with text animators, check out my class:
Create a text box by double clicking the preset in the Effects & Presets panel.
To align the box with a text layer, select the text box shape layer, go to the Effect Controls panel. Select the text layer in the dropdown menu.
Parent the text box to the text layer and enter zeros for the box's position.
Now that the box is aligned and sized to the text, you can unparent the box from the text or leave it parented.
Adjust the appearance of the text in any way that you like and the box should stay sized and aligned.
Adjust the text box as a shape layer (color, stroke, etc.). In the Effect Controls panel (with the text box selected), you can adjust the padding for the width and height of the box.
This text box animates independently from the text. You can animate the text in any way that you'd like, including by simply applying the included Text Scale In & Out Preset to the text layer.
In the Effect Controls panel (with the text box selected), you can adjust which the anchor point and scale direction for the text box. The animation is controlled by the Animation Slider, so you can adjust these keyframes to adjust the timing or interpolation of the animation.
The Motion Graphic Templates (.mogrt files) can be used in Adobe Premiere Pro. You can save them in any folder on your computer, but I like to save them here:
Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro (current version)
In this folder, create your own folder, called something like "Mogrts".
In Premiere, find the Graphics Templates panel (if using an older version of Premiere, this may be called "Essential Graphics". Click the + icon next to Local Templates. Navigate to the folder where you save the .mogrts, select that folder and click Choose.
You should see your imported mogrts in the Graphics Templates panel. These templates will now be available in any Premiere project.
Drag the motion graphics template into your sequence. In the Properties panel, there are many different properties you can adjust to customize your text and text box.
The animation is built into the template and there are controls to customize it.
You can adjust the length of time the text box lasts by dragging the end of the layer in the timeline. The animation will adjust accordingly.
